Bad Momma?!?!?

So I have been told that I am a horrible mother because I did not do an Easter basket for Cannon. I know it is SOOO against tradition but hey! why can't I start my own tradition with my kids and it be perfectly fine! I feel that Easter or what we will now also refer to as Resurrection Sunday, is all about Jesus Christ! I don't want Cannon, being at a very impressionable age right now, to associate Easter with getting a basket full of toys and candy. God made the ultimate sacrifice giving His son's life for ME/US that He deserves more credit on this holiday then the Easter bunny! I was raised getting an Easter basket and I loved it! But sometimes I think that was my focus as a child instead of the resurrection. There are only a few holidays throughout the year that are Christian holidays and Easter is one of those that I don't want to get watered down by societies standards and the true meaning crowded out by the make believe character. God has done so much for me, this is the least I can do for Him! So I am not saying that we will never do an Easter basket, but for right now Andrew and I have decided that we will exclude it from the holiday. Hey, we gave the boy an Easter egg hut! And he absolutely loved it! I have a video and then pictures we took on Resurrection Sunday!

  1. I think that's a great idea!! We don't do "Santa" at Christmas. My kids get gifts but they are from mommy and daddy and know that we give gifts because the wise men gave gifts to Jesus for his birthday. A little girl once said to Avery (who's 6), "I belive in Santa", and Avery said "I believe in Jesus". And that made me happy with our choice to leave Santa out of it.

My girls do get Easter baskets, but they don't come from the Easter bunny they come from mommy and daddy, and they don't get them until after church on Easter. We celebrate Easter at church first and then exchange baskets "just for fun". Just like they get a gift on Valentine's day because we love them. :)
